Since finishing my debut novel and starting the draft sequel, something shifted within me. The world around us has evolved and so have I. The story I once cherished now feels dated, confined to the past, while my heart whispers of the potential to transcend time and bring it into the future, transforming it from a young adult novel into adult fiction. It will be a daunting task, no doubt, but the prospect of molding the characters and their struggles into a more mature, complex narrative excites me beyond words.
You might wonder why I would challenge myself with such a task after dedicating 15 years to the original version. The truth is, every passing year has gifted me with new experiences, perspectives, and insights. Life has a way of shaping us, and it has certainly left its mark on this book too. I want my creation to mirror the person I’ve become, to reflect the deeper layers of human emotion and the complexities of adulthood.
With the decision made, I’m rolling up my sleeves and diving back into the world I’ve spent so long building. This time, the focus will be on introspection, mature themes, and intricate relationships. But rest assured while I seek to transcend the boundaries of young adult fiction, I won’t abandon the essence that made the original story special and the core values.
Now, the big question arises: how long will this rewrite take? I’m not one to rush the creative process but I’ve set a personal goal to complete it over the next several months. I’m driven by the vision of seeing my novel published next year, so I can finally share this reimagined story with all of you.
